FAQ - Frequently Asked QuestionsDo you need to speak Spanish?No. While the national language is Spanish, many of the more commercial towns and tourist areas will have English speaking guides and employees. How is the weather in Costa Rica?Though the country is small, weather varies dramatically by region in Costa Rica. Forecasts for the larger cities are not good indicators of the weather conditions in the coastal regions. Near Jaco Beach, daytime temperatures in the HIGH SEASON are generally in the upper 80’s and nighttime lows are in the mid-70’s. In the GREEN SEASON daytime highs are in the low 80’s and nighttime lows are in the lower 70’s. Expect rain in the green season, though it is likely to be preceded by sunshine and followed by sunshine. Rain is less likely in the high season but is not uncommon. Unlike the coastal region, San Jose is at high altitude, so it can get chilly in the evening – particularly during the green season. Do I need to exchange currency?The national currency of Costa Rica is called the calone, however US dollars are accepted everywhere. The best exchange rate will be found by exchanging your US dollars at a local bank or alternatively by using an ATM which are plentiful. What should I BRING TO wear?Jaco Beach is extremely casual – shorts, swimwear and sandals are acceptable everywhere. Los Suenos has a few restaurants where you may want to dress up for dinner. All Costa Rica Dream Makers vacation rentals have a washer and dryer available, so pack light. You may also want to consider clothing needed for any tours and excursions. If you are planning a short trip to Manuel Antonio Park, the Zip Lines, a Jungle Canopy Tour or an ATV expedition, you’ll need sturdy tennis shoes or hiking shoes. If you plan a fishing excursion or golf at Los Suenos Resort & Marina, pack appropriately. The sun can be intense here, so remember your sunscreen, hat and sunglasses. Flip-flops or beach shoes are a good idea. Do I need a Passport?Yes, you’ll need a valid passport to gain entry into the country. The passport must be valid for 6 months after your arrival date. Costa Rica law requires you to carry either your passport or a copy of your passport with you at all times. If you need a photocopy of your passport stop by our office and we'll be glad to photocopy it for you. Is it safe in Costa Rica?Yes it is safe, however like any other city, you’ll need be aware of your surroundings. Don't leave your camera, cell phone or laptop unattended. Being drunk and obnoxious in a bar at 2AM isn't a good idea anywhere and Costa Rica is no different. The same things you do to avoid dangerous situations in the US should be applied while you're on vacation in Costa Rica. |
